Cats

Cats at Mead Theater

Why see Cats?

Come one, come all!

After an exciting revival on Broadway in 2016 - the first since its marathon 18-year run - Cats is heading out on tour, bringing the feline frolics to a town near you! A production full of musical theatre classics, instantly recognizable costumes, and choreography and bursting with cat-itude, this iconic show is purrfect for newcomers and old-timers.

Created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh in 1981, Cats is based on poet T.S Elliot's 1939 anthology, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, a guide to all kinds of cats from the streetwise stray to the pampered lap cat. This revival retains direction from Trevor Nunn and revised choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler after Gillian Lyne.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Once a year, a local tribe of street cats, all with their own distinct names and personalities, come together for the legendary "Jellicle Ball". Here they entertain each other, tell stories, and listen to wisdom given by their elderly and respected leader, Old Deuteronomy. A Broadway classic, Cats doesn't follow your usual musical theatre plot, instead, it's a dazzlingly choreographed jamboree that gives us the inside scoop on the real lives of our feline friends!

Talented cast

This was my third time attending a CATS performance. My first time was at the Peace Center in Greenville, SC. I had a front row balcony seat and was familiar with the TS Eliot ‘s book as well as the music. The second time was at the same theater with front row seats. Last evening, 8/13/19, I was 6 rows form the stage in Charlotte , NC. Once again, I reread the poems before attending the show and am very familiar with music. I LOVED IT!! The cast was younger that previous casts, but oh so talented. They had more eye contact with the audience than I had previously experienced and I thought more facial expression over all. The cast appeared to thoroughly enjoy what they were doing. Very enjoyable evening and the staff at the theater were courteous and very helpful. After reading some of the other reviews I will make this comment, preparation is a useful key to a lot of things, especially musical theater. To the cast, thank you for your hard work and great performance. ... Read more
