Why see Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington?

Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington join forces for North America tour

Two absolute giants of jazz team up for a momentous run of shows in the USA and Canada. With pianist Herbie Hancock representing jazz royalty and saxophonist Washington carrying the torch of the new guard on the frontline of contemporary jazz, the tour is set to be a life-affirming meeting of titans.

Hancock's decorated and truly pioneering career has led him to become one of the touchstone names in jazz history, from his genre-defining early work with the likes of Miles Davies, to his plethora of compositions which have become jazz standards around the world. Washington meanwhile, whilst a relative newcomer to the global stage, has already made a name as one of the most exciting bandleaders of the modern age. One of a handful of musicians reviving and modernising jazz for the current mainstream generation, his collaborations include work with Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus and Snoop Dogg. This run of shows is an absolute must for fans of the genre.

Glasper & Hancock Exceptional Kamasi Washington Creates BIG Noise

Robert Glasper and band were exceptional! Late addition as early opener. Unfortunately cut off after half hour to scheduled time constraints. Next up Kamasi Washington, big sound big noise too loud. The sound was so obnoxious and loud as to remove it's musicality. The same thing over and over as to create a headache. We just suffered through it hoping it would end soon. I wish Glasper had had been slated as opener for Herbie Hancock. We couldn't wait for Kamasi's set to be over! Hancock's band was young, vibrant and very talented. Good energy great vibes! They played an incredible Watermelon Man! Herbie also played an old Headhunters tune Actual Proof and a tune called Chameleon. Hancock teased Butterfly, yet sadly did not play it. I also would have loved to have heard Tell Me A Bedtime Story! Maybe next time. I only left 4 stars instead of 5 because of Kamasi's noisy madness. ... Read more
